Sometimes it's quicker to say something than to type it. In chat, you can record and send a voice message, for example when you're on the go or when something is easier to explain out loud than to write down. Audio you receive plays directly in the conversation.
You can record voice messages in the app and on web.
Recording and sending a voice message in the app
Open the conversation in which you want to send a voice message.
Press and hold the [microphone icon]. The icon takes the place of the send button as soon as the text field is empty. You'll see the recording time and a waveform.
Release to send the voice message right away.
To cancel the recording, slide to the left while holding down the recording. The recording is then deleted and nothing is sent.
Hands-free recording: slide up to lock the recording. You can then pause, resume, delete or send it. With a locked recording, the message is only sent when you tap the send button.
Recording and sending a voice message on web
Open the conversation in which you want to send a voice message.
Click the [microphone icon] in the chat bar to start recording.
Pause the recording, or click the [send icon] right away to send it.
To cancel the recording, click the [trash icon] on the left.
Playing audio in chat
You play audio in the conversation itself, without having to open or download a file first. You get:
A button to play and pause
A progress bar, so you can see how much of the message is left
Good to know
The first time, your browser asks for access to your microphone. If you don't grant access, you won't be able to record a voice message.
The first time, the app asks for access to your microphone. If you declined it, you can turn it on in your phone's settings.
Private chat messages aren't visible to your organization admin, and that includes voice messages.
You can delete a voice message you've sent, just like a regular chat message.
